Chief Justice Michael Randolph to speak during Mississippi Bar seminar in Hattiesburg

Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael K. Randolph will speak March 1 at 11:10 a.m. in Hattiesburg at the Lake Terrace Convention Center during the Southern Regional Bar Meeting/CLE on the Road Seminar.

Justice Randolph, who became Chief Justice Feb. 1, is expected to talk about the extensive experience of the court he leads. The present nine justices are veteran jurists who collectively have more than 100 years of appellate court experience. When Chief Justice Randolph joined the Court in 2004, the collective appellate experience of the Court was less than 41 years.

He will also make a continuing legal education presentation which will include rules for seeking attorney fees in successful appeals before the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Randolph, leader of the Mississippi judiciary, is the longest serving member of the Supreme Court with 15 years on the bench, including six years as a Presiding Justice. He maintained a law practice for nearly 30 years before Gov. Haley Barbour appointed him to the Supreme Court in 2004.

Chief Justice Randolph was decorated for heroism in Vietnam. He served with the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One. He graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., with a B.S. degree in business administration. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where he served as president of the Law School Student Body. During law school, he received an appointment as a Reserve officer in the U.S. Navy, Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He is a graduate of the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island.
